Congressmen Thompson And Huffman Praise Biden’s State Of The Union
Two North Bay Congressman are giving a thumbs up to President Biden’s State of the Union Address.
In a statement, Congressman Mike Thompson of St. Helena said “It was refreshing to hear from a leader in the White House who is commanding respect from abroad and working with our allies in the common defense of democracy at home and around the world.” He admitted there was still more work to do, mainly referring to lowering costs of everyday products but expressed optimism in the White House and the American people. Congressman Jared Huffman of San Rafael tells the Press Democrat that it was a solid speech, calling Biden’s optimism and achievements “an important turning point in our message to the American people.”
Meanwhile, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy of California criticized the President, and said that Biden wants to, quote, “double-down on the destruction caused by one year of one-party, Democrat rule. Violent crime is up, fentanyl is flowing through our open border, children have suffered through disrupted learning, and small businesses were punished at the whim of power-hungry politicians.” During his speech, President Biden again pushed for passage of many of his social spending bills which have not gained Republican support.
